Privacy Policy: Expense Tracker
Developer: 4S Software Solutions · Effective 24 September 2026
Expense Tracker ("the app") is an Android app for recording personal expenses. It is built so that your financial information stays under your control. This policy explains what the app handles and where it goes.
1. Data stays on your device
Everything you enter stays in the app's private storage on your phone. This covers accounts, balances, entries, categories, budgets, recurring entries, notes, tags and bill photos. 4S Software Solutions does not run a server for the app, does not receive your data, and has no account system. The app contains no advertising, no analytics and no tracking by us, and we do not sell or share your data.
2. Optional Google Drive backup
- If you turn on Google Drive backup, the app uploads backup files to a hidden app folder in your own
Google Drive. It uses the
drive.appdatapermission, which only allows access to that app folder. The app cannot see, read or change any of your other Drive files. - Backups contain your app data, including bill photos. If you choose a backup passphrase, backups are encrypted on your phone before upload. Without that passphrase, neither Google nor we can read them.
- Sign-in and permission are handled by Google Play services. The app uses your Google account email only to show which account backups go to.
- You can turn Drive backup off in the app at any time. You can also remove the app's access at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Backups already in your Drive remain under your control. Google's own privacy policy applies to data stored in Google Drive.
3. Bill and screenshot scanning
When you scan a bill or share a payment screenshot or bank SMS with the app, the text is read on your phone using Google's ML Kit on-device text recognition. Images and text are not sent to us or used for advertising. A compressed copy of the image is kept with the entry until you delete it. ML Kit may send limited technical information to Google, such as device model, app and library version and performance metrics, so that Google can maintain the library. It does not send your images or the text read from them.
4. Permissions the app uses
- Notifications: credit card due-date reminders and backup alerts (optional).
- Biometric / screen lock: the optional app lock. Your phone checks your fingerprint, face or PIN; the app never sees or stores them.
- Internet: only for the optional Google Drive backup.
- The app does not ask for camera, contacts, location or SMS permissions. Photos are taken with your phone's camera app or chosen through Android's photo picker, and SMS text is only what you share with the app.
5. Backup files and exports you create
Backup files and Excel/CSV exports are saved or shared only where you choose. Anyone who has an unencrypted backup or export can read it, so keep them safe or use a passphrase.
6. Deleting your data
You can delete entries and bill photos in the app. Uninstalling the app deletes all of its data from the phone. To delete Drive backups, turn off Drive backup and remove the app's access in your Google Account. Hidden app-folder data can also be deleted from Google Drive's settings under "Manage apps".
7. Children
The app is intended for adults managing their own finances and is not directed at children.
8. Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
